My name is Janet Ochai. Am a 400l biology student, Faculty of Sciences, Abuja Model Center, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) was never my choice of school but I felt like age was not on my side, so I decided to join it anyways, I mean how hard could it be I said to myself LOL.
My first semester 100 level wasn't so easy, having no one to put me through most stuffs I had to do them myself and the tutorial center I enrolled in was not so helpful at all, having only four science students and me being the only biology student and less lecturers. It was so frustrating that I decided to search for other centers myself instead of reading.
I encountered so many issues, from trying to understand how the school system works to solving my Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) and reading to understand all my offered courses.
My Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) were so poor but I kept on believing that at least the exams wouldn't be that bad. And finally when the exam day came my it was something else I was so shocked at the number of students present. Sometimes you will end up writing an exam by 5Pm and you will be so stressed out and almost forget most of things you have read, and you might still have to write another paper 7Am the next day, based on the timetable.
When my 100 level results were released I had one carry over and some missing results, I felt really bad but couldn't tell anyone, because I was ashamed I promised myself to do better next time and I did.
I enrolled in a better tutorial center were I met most of my course mate's, I asked questions to help me understand the system better. I made sure my Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA)s had better grades this time and I read as well. And the results came this time around it was better than before and since then by the grace of God it has been that way.
I prayed so hard for the years to roll faster so I can round up with the school when I just started, but here I am counting the days left to finish and recalling the memories makes me smile .
It has not been easy I mean, nothing is, but with God, patience, hard work and diligence everything is possible.
