QUESTION 1

a)           Discuss the circumstances in which professional accountants may disclose confidential information      (10 marks)

b)           Different groups have different expectations with regard to an auditor’s duties. Explain in details the common areas of expectation gaps.                           (15 marks)

The main objective of the management letter is to assist those charged with governance in improving the accounting system, the control environment and to highlight any matters that may be relevant for future audit.

a)           Explain five (5) advantages of management letter (5 marks)

b)           Discuss ten (10) contents of management letter        (5 marks)

c)           Elucidate the major areas the report should highlight                   (5 marks)

a)           Discuss the steps that an auditor should take when fraud or error is suspected  (10.5 marks)

b)           Explain the circumstances that could result to a change of an auditor              (4.5 marks)

QUESTION 4

a)           Elucidate the task auditors use computers for while carrying out their audit assignments      (10 marks)

b)           Audit software is computer programs used by the auditor to extract information from a client’s computer-based information system for use in the audit. Explain the main types of audit software.     (5 marks)

QUESTION 5

a)           The objective of planning an audit is to determine the amount and type of evidence and review required to assure the auditor that there are no material misstatements in the financial statements. Explain the audit planning procedures required.               (6 marks)

b)           Assessing and evaluating risk is the core of every audit. To assess audit risk, the auditor performs four (4) tasks.  Elucidate these tasks.      (9 marks)

QUESTION 6

a)           The Directors are responsible for the preparation of the Financial Statements that give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Company at the end of each financial year and of the profit or loss for that year and comply with the requirements of the Companies and Allied Matters Act. In carrying out this responsibility, mention eight (8) things that the Directors/Management should ensure.   (8 marks)

b)           Mention the potential threats that could affect auditors’ independence and objectivity.   (7 marks)
